Top Tips To Keep Your Hair Healthy

We often overlook the importance of hair care, focusing on the appearance of our day-to-day hairstyles without taking into account the long-term effects of heat damage and hair dye. It’s an easy mistake to make, but considering the importance of our hair, it seems almost silly to neglect it so carelessly. Read on for some important dos and don’ts to keep your hair as healthy as possible.

  1. ALWAYS BRUSH YOUR HAIR BEFORE YOU SHOWER

Removing knots and tangles from damp, wet hair can result in breakages, so brushing it pre-shower is essential. We recommend brushing for at least 60 seconds or until all knots are removed.

We always recommend using a brush that bristles bend, to ensure your knots dont tug on the hair and create damage. We recommend the wetbrush for brushing wet hair, in the shower, out of the shower, brushing out curls – you name it!

  1. KEEP YOUR HAIR HYDRATED

Hydration is the solution to everything – from great skin to lustrous hair, it’s amazing what a bit of H2O can do for us. Keep your mid lengths and ends hydrated by always adding a leave in treatment to your mid lengths and ends, after showering. We recommend Olaplex No.6, Apply a small amount to mid lengths & ends onto wet hair, blow-dry or leave dry naturally. Every other day (besides wash day) apply a small amount of serum to your mid lengths & ends to add hydrated & balance out oils – We recommend Olaplex No.7

  1. ALWAYS PROTECT YOUR HAIR BEFORE STYLING

Heat styling has developed a bit of a bad reputation, but it doesn’t necessarily deserve its negative image. As long as you apply a heat protection spray before styling your hair, you don’t have to banish heat entirely.

The Don’ts of Hair Care

  1. DON’T DRY YOUR HAIR WITH A TOWEL

We’ve all done it, but it’s surprising how bad this can be for your hair. Towels can be very harsh on your delicate tresses, resulting in unnecessary breakages. Instead, use an old cotton t-shirt.

  1. DON’T BACKCOMB YOUR HAIR

It may add volume, but backcombing can also cause a lot of damage. Teasing your hair like this causes friction and hair knots, so it’s best to refrain from styles involving this technique.

  1. DON’T OVERDO THE CHEMICAL TREATMENTS

Dyeing your hair is a great way to express yourself, and no one is saying you should stop that. However, too many chemical treatments can damage your hair, stripping your hair of its natural lustre and making it dry and dull. That’s why it’s best to leave the dyeing of your hair to the professionals, especially ones that offer consultations.

At Ebony Rose and Hair Design, our experts prioritise hair care alongside colouring, striving to prove that colouring your hair doesn’t have to damage it. And with our colour consultations, we can ensure you get the results you want while taking into account your hair’s personal needs.
